Rules & Regulations

Saving Sons Sober Living, LLC 

  1. The use or possession of narcotics or alcohol is strictly prohibited. Violation of this policy will result in immediate eviction. Any resident that is caught with a prohibited substance on the property will be dismissed and permanently banned from reentry into Saving Sons Sober Living, LLC. Regular drug and alcohol screenings will be performed. 

  2. A $100.00 entrance fee and your first week's fee is required upon admission ($200). Weekly fees of $100.00 are to be paid every Friday by 7PM of each week. This payment will cover the fee for the following week.  There are no refunds for fees. Residents will be evicted if fees are not paid. 

  3. The use of tobacco is only permitted in designated areas. No smoking/vaping indoors. 

  4. All residents must be legal US citizens that speak english. Residents must possess a valid government ID and Social Security Card for identification and employment purposes. 

  5. Each resident is required to attend Sunday Morning Church Service at Old Dock Church, Monday Evening Celebrate Recovery at Western Prong Baptist Church, and Thursday Evening AA Meeting at Whiteville First Presbyterian. Transportation will be provided for residents without vehicles. 

  6. Each resident is expected to do their fair share of chores around the house. Staff may assign chores if necessary. Keep your bedroom clean and clean behind yourself after using the common areas (bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, etc) as well. 

  7. Residents are required to live peaceably with one another and be obedient to the staff. If a resident becomes destructive to the recovery environment, they will be evicted. 

  8. All residents are expected to be back home according to their designated phase curfew unless it conflicts with work. All residents must be inside the house by 11 PM and are not allowed outside until 5 AM. 

  9. All residents must be biological males. Sexual activity is strictly prohibited on the property. Pornographic material of any kind is not allowed. Due to zoning restrictions, Saving Sons Sober Living, LLC does not accept registered sex offenders or people convicted of violent crimes.

  10. Purposeful destruction of property, assault, threats, gambling, theft, sharing medication, or touching another resident's personal locker will result in immediate eviction. 

Substance Use/Nicotine Regulations  

  1. Use of narcotics or controlled substances, prescribed or otherwise, will result in immediate removal from the residence. All medications and supplements must be approved prior to bringing onto the property or use. All residents are required to pass a urine screen or breathalyzer upon request. The use or possession of MAT drugs such as Buprenorphine and Methadone are strictly prohibited. 

  2. Residents may not share prescription medications under any circumstances. Violation of this rule will result in eviction due to health and safety reasons. 

  3. Residents are allowed to smoke/vape but must do so outdoors at the back patio or under the carport only. Smoking/vaping or congregating in the front yard is strictly prohibited due to our effort to remain respectable and in good standing with our neighbors.  

  4. Residents are not allowed to smoke/vape or use nicotine on the property of Old Dock Church. This is to ensure that we continue to have a good reputation and present a positive image to our church that supports us tremendously. 

Resident Room Regulations

  1. Resident’s person, property, or room may be searched at any time for any reason by staff. There is no expectation of privacy. Refusal to allow staff to search will result in immediate eviction. 

  2. We cannot provide storage services after discharge or accept responsibility for abandoned items. Every item must be removed at the time of departure. Valuables should never be stored at a recovery home.

  3. Bedrooms must be neat, clean, and orderly with beds made every morning by 8AM. Every resident is involved with our rotating chore system and shares responsibility for common areas. 

  4. Residents may not introduce, rearrange, or remove furniture, equipment, literature, or appliances. 

  5. Residents are not allowed to nail, tack, or tape anything to the walls of anyroom in the house. Personal items or pictures may be displayed on their dresser, night stand, or desk. 

  6. Never enter a bedroom that is not your own unless directed by staff. Any resident that is caught in another's room by themself will be considered to have intentions of theft and may be evicted. 

  7. All residents must be fully clothed unless in their rooms by themselves. They must respect their roommates by being decently covered at all times. Residents may not walk from the shower to their room without being covered. 

  8. Napping in common areas such as couches is prohibited. Residents may nap on their bed as long as their fees are paid and you have a steady source of income. 

  9. Food and drink (other than water) are not to be consumed or stored in personal rooms unless it is in the original unopened packaging.

House Regulations

  1. The laundry room is off limits past 11 PM and common area use is prohibited beyond 11:30PM. All residents must be in their rooms with lights off by 12:00 AM unless using the bathroom.  

  2. Never pile clothing in the laundry room or leave laundry unattended while absent. Each resident is assigned a day to do laundry to ensure everyone has a chance to wash their clothes. 

  3. Labeled foods are off limits unless permission is granted by the owner in advance. This is stealing. Any resident that is caught purposefully stealing food will be immediately evicted.

  4. Residents are expected to use the rear entrance when entering and exiting the house. 

  5. Residents are not allowed to open the mailbox or go through another resident's mail. If you receive mail it will be given to you by authorized personnel (unopened) and if you would like to send mail you must give it to authorized personnel (sealed and stamped) to be sent off. 

  6. Personal vehicles are allowed but must be approved before they are allowed on the property. Program transportation and bikes are available to all residents. 

  7. All unemployed residents are required to be off campus (Monday - Friday) searching for employment from 9AM-11AM and 1PM-4PM You may return to campus to eat lunch and use the computer to put in job applications. Phase 1 residents may be given permission to leave campus to look for employment but must have permission before leaving campus. 

  8. House chores are done from 4PM-5PM. Free time is after 5PM. Rent paying residents are allowed to be on site anytime they aren't working but must still participate in chores during their free time.


Meeting/Church Regulations

  1. Meeting/Church attendance is mandatory. If a resident is unable to attend a meeting due to work, they must report to staff at least 48 hours in advance with proof of a conflicting work schedule. The only acceptable excuse for missing meetings is due to a mandatory employment obligation, medical issues, or on an approved pass. There is a $50 fine for missing any required meeting. 

  2. Romantic contact at these functions is strictly prohibited. Residents may not contact or initiate conversation with anyone of the opposite sex they meet at church/meetings. 

  3. Missing a meeting, showing up late, or leaving early without permission may result in disciplinary actions including fines. 

  4. Residents are to remain seated during meetings and avoid any physical or verbal contact with females. Residents may never use group outings as an opportunity to have unauthorized visits or pursue romantic relationships. 

  5. Meetings and church services are for personal recovery and spiritual nourishment only. Residents must focus on whoever is conducting the service and never look around the congregation during service. They may not seem uninterested or fall asleep during meetings or services.

  6. Residents may not ever use or look at their phone during a meeting or service of any kind. We don’t use the Bible App on our phones, we use real Bibles and if you don't have one, one will be provided for you. 

  7. Residents may get coffee at church between Sunday school and worship service. Do not walk in any classrooms or other rooms during this time and always stay together in groups. 

Resident Conduct Regulations

  1. Improper or unprofessional behavior towards employers or anyone that reflects negatively upon the program, including no calls and no shows, will result in loss of privileges or eviction. 

  2. Any verbal threats, hate speech, acts of aggression, or possession of dangerous items or weapons will be considered a risk to the security of our home and will be confiscated. We insist on a safe and secure environment. 

  3. We strive for a balance of structure, accountability, and the freedom for residents to pursue their own interests and individuality. Residents must never push their opinions, lifestyle, or unapproved doctrine on others. Residents are free to believe whatever they so choose as long as their faith or worldview is not pushed on others.  

  4. All residents are expected to respect the fact that this is a Christian-based program and are not allowed to openly contradict any scriptures found in the Holy Bible or doctrine taught by Pastor Colton Reaves. Biblical principles and ideals are essential to the health and structure of our program. 

  5. Since this is a Christian program, residents are expected to act accordingly. No playing explicit music out loud, watching vulgar programs on TV, and residents may not use the computer for recreational purposes. The house computer is only for employment purposes any other reason for use must be approved by staff. 

  6. Using foul language or speaking about sinful experiences is strictly prohibited. Staff and residents are allowed to remind others of this policy anytime it's violated. 

Appearance Regulations 

  1. Facial hair must be kept short (less than half an inch)  and neatly trimmed. Hair must be short, neat, and well kept at all times. An appropriate length is considered no longer than halfway down the ear, halfway down the neck, or past the eyebrows. 

  2. Residents may be asked to clean shave their face and neck or cut their hair to an appropriate length by staff. Noncompliance to this policy is grounds for eviction.

  3. All residents are required to shower using soap daily and practice good hygiene including regularly brushing their teeth and washing their clothes. Hygiene products will be provided for residents who come with insufficient funds and can't afford them. After 2 weeks residents are expected to purchase their own hygiene supplies. 

  4. Residents are not allowed to wear head gear or sunglasses inside of any building where a service or meeting is taking place. Residents are required to wear long pants to the Sunday morning church service.

  5. Piercings are not allowed to be worn at any time. Watches, wedding/class rings, and simple chains (commonly worn under shirts) are the only acceptable jewelry. Tacky jewelry (like large chains with large pendants, multiple rings, obviously fake, etc.) is not allowed. 

  6. Any clothing or items that have drug/alcohol references or foul language is prohibited on the property and will be confiscated. 

Disclaimers

  1. A positive screening is not necessary to determine evidence of intoxication. Any abuse of chemicals, including over the counter or legal substances, is sufficient reason for immediate eviction. Anyone caught bringing prohibited substances on the property will be evicted and permanently banned from reentry. 

  2. All jobs must be pre-approved and within a reasonable distance. Never cut through a neighbor’s yard when walking or biking. Working in an environment that is not conducive to recovery is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to bars, clubs, tobacco shops, and liquor stores. You may not enter any of these places either.

  3. For those unemployed, finding a job is a full-time job and your time should be scheduled as such outside the home. Sobriety means you will stop using people and institutions to sustain your existence. In recovery you will learn to pay for the goods and services you receive and do without those you cannot afford. After 2 consecutive weeks of nonpayment and failing to find a job you will be evicted. 

  4. Pairing off, which means spending an unusual amount of time or attention on an individual you meet at church or recovery functions, is strictly forbidden regardless of your motives. Nonresidents are never allowed on the property, including parking lots and driveways unless they are transporting residents and have been approved to do so by staff. 

  5. Personal vehicles and third party vehicles, including family cars or company trucks, are not allowed on the property without approval. The resident must have a valid driver's license, insurance, and up to date registration on their personal vehicles. 

  6. All personal belongings/vehicles must be removed at the time of departure regardless of the circumstances. Our general expectation is a two week notice prior to moving. We cannot accept responsibility for abandoned items, nor can we store them. If a resident makes the decision to move out leaving personal items behind, we have no way of determining ownership or safeguarding items. Vehicles will be towed at the owners’ expense if abandoned. Your valuables are your responsibility. 

  7. Only past residents who leave on good terms with a proper notice are welcome to interact with current residents.

  8. All overnight passes must be approved by management in advance. Phase One residents will not be granted an overnight pass under any circumstances. This is a privilege that must be earned. 

  9. Celebrate Recovery/Twelve step meeting attendance is an essential part of our recovery therapy approach. Residents must maintain meeting etiquette by remaining seated, unless using the restroom, with phones always concealed. Residents are to avoid female contact or disruptive behavior at recovery functions. 

  10. Lockers and lock boxes are provided for residents to place valuables and medications in. All medications (other than OTC) must be stored in your personal lock box inside your assigned locker. Locks are not provided so it is best to bring a standard lock with you to the program. You can only open your personal locker, touching another resident's locker will be interpreted as stealing and you may be evicted. 

  11. If a resident is unable to work but receives benefits they must pay for the whole month ($400), plus any owed fees, on the day they receive their benefits. If the resident leaves before the 4 weeks are up they will receive money back for whatever weeks they paid for but did not stay for. Residents who work and receive benefits may pay weekly. 

  12. Violating any of the rules may result in consequences with the most severe being immediate eviction and being permanently banned from reentry. The less severe violations will result in fines ranging from ($10-$50). The 1st offense is a warning, 2nd offense is ($10), and each offense afterward will increase by ($10) increments until it reaches the maximum penalty of ($50). All fines are due the following Friday that the offense occurs. ($200) is the maximum account balance a resident may have before eviction. 

  13. Residents may participate in the Resident Referral Incentive Program by referring another resident into the program. A ($50) credit will be awarded to the resident after the referred resident pays their second week's rent. The referred resident must acknowledge who referred them in their application. 

  14. A resident of Saving Sons Sober Living, LLC is not a tenant and does not have the same rights or privileges that a normal tenant would enjoy. All residents are guests/visitors and may be asked to leave at any time for violating any of the above stated rules and regulations (also posted in plain view at Saving Sons Sober Living, LLC). If a resident refuses to leave after being instructed by staff, then local law enforcement will be called to assist in their removal from the property. If law enforcement is involved in their removal, the resident will then be permanently banned from reentry into Saving Sons Sober Living, LLC and not allowed on the property under threat of prosecution for trespassing. 

  15. Residents are not allowed to loan money to other residents for any reason whatsoever. All needs are provided for all residents by management. 

Phase 1-3 Description 

Residents will have a meeting with staff before phasing up. The following phases are intended to grant privileges and freedoms to residents resulting from good behavior and trustworthiness. 

Phase 1: All residents enter into the program in phase 1 and are eligible to move up after 30 days in the program. Any resident that owes more than $100 will automatically be put in Phase 1. (Graduates of a long term recovery program may be eligible to skip phase 1 & 2 depending on staff approval and duration of previous program.)

  • Residents in Phase 1 are not allowed off the property unless approved by staff and must inform staff of every place they go. (You are only allowed to leave for necessary business and employment.)

  • Ineligible for overnight pass or family visit for any reason. 

  • Must secure employment/income and obtain a Bible. 

  • Must attend all scheduled group meetings.

  • Must wear Green Saving Sons Polo to Sunday AM Church Service.

Phase 2: After 30 days residents may move up to Phase 2 if they have no recent disciplinary infractions and have a zero account balance. 

  • 7PM Curfew – Staff must be informed of your whereabouts but you do not need permission to leave.

  • Ineligible for overnight pass but may have family visits on or off campus with immediate family or spouse only. Must be back to the house by curfew. 

  • Wednesday Evening House Meeting is optional. You may attend a meeting or church service and will be excused for missing curfew.

  • Must wear a collar shirt to Sunday AM Church Service.

Phase 3: After 60 days residents are eligible to move up to phase 3 if they have no recent disciplinary infractions and have a zero account balance.

  • 8PM Curfew (Monday – Friday) & 9PM Weekend Curfew (Saturday & Sunday) – You are expected to answer any questions staff may have about your whereabouts but you have full privileges to come and go as you please.

  • Eligible for overnight pass with approval from Pastor Colton Reaves. 

  • Wednesday & Saturday Evening House Meetings are optional. (You may attend a meeting or church service and be excused for missing curfew.) 

  • Must wear a collar shirt to Sunday AM Church Service 

  • Phase 3 residents are expected to be leaders in the house and help lower phase residents learn the rules and expectations of the program. Failure to be a good example, causing division in the house, or obvious lack of spiritual maturity may result in being demoted from Phase 3.
